More than a year has passed since my initial post. This is definitely harder than I ever expected. Life happens and its easy to look track and focused. Thats not to say the time has been wasted. This past year was full of planning, prepping, cooking, failing and learning. I have improved old recipes, worked on new techniques and failed at some of the most basic steps. I have learned that I am not good at making multiple dishes at a time, and that I need to be prepared with a plan b in case the family is not very hungry. I have discovered the wonders of a pressure cooker and tested my patience with the slow cooker.
Why do I want to blog when there are so many blogs out there? Mainly because once I became a mom I started to really pay attention to what I was eating. Cooking for my kids gave me a whole new level of responsibility. I became aware of what was going into my food and the effects I could have on my body. When my first born was four months old, the doctor gave us the green light on solids. His suggestion was to start with rice cereal, which we immediately bought. Surprisingly, the little one was not as excited as we were. After this failed attempt I decided to research a little more. This led me to baby led weaning. Since we loved to eat at home, we decided to try this method and introduce out little one to the foods we loved. Little by little our menu kept growing and finally dinner time became the most important moment of our family life. As I mentioned, this came with a big responsibility. It was all about the ingredients, the more I learned, the better quality I wanted. Of course this is not always possible, so I have made some concessions. I have also learned that I need to be a little flexible and allow some breaks for our family’s sanity. I don’t have a perfect method, but we enjoy food and the things we learn around the table. This personal journey is far from perfect but I believe there are some things that you might enjoy and that will be helpful for your own experience.
I have promised my self to focus this second time. To slow down so I can get my recipes down and hopefully you will enjoy them too. I will also share with you my meal planning list and some other tips around the kitchen. If you have any ideas, requests, or recipes you would like for me to try, I would love to hear from you.
